Harold Julius Larsen was born in Victor, CO to Birger O. and Margrethe (Borchgrevink) Larsen. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Elizabeth, and her husband, Walter Gorablenkow; his brothers, Olaf, Birger, and Hans; his wife, Edna (Wasson) Larsen and a son, Joseph Daniel, as well as a nephew, Lars Larsen.

He is survived by five children: Dr. Harold J. Larsen, Jr. (wife, Faith) of Grand Junction, CO; Dr. Samuel H. Larsen (wife, Louise) of Kennesaw, GA; David A. Larsen (wife, Claire) of Harrisburg, PA; Stephanie E. Reininger (husband, Joe) of Security, CO; and Malinda G.Mann (husband, Roger) of Pueblo. He also is survived by a nephew, Peter Larsen in MN, 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Harold spent his early years in Victor and moved to Colorado Springs, CO after his high school graduation. He married Edna Marguerite Wasson on Oct. 5, 1942 in Colo. Springs. He served in the army during WWII (1942-45) and, following his honorable discharge as a Sergeant, obtained his B.A. at Sterling College in Sterling, KA (1948) and his Master of Divinity from Pittsburgh Xenia Seminary, Pittsburgh, PA (1951). He served as a student pastor while attending college and seminary at Arlington, KA and at Universal, PA, respectively, and subsequently pastored United Presbyterian churches in Telluride, CO (1951-52), Chicago (1953-56) and Cutler (1956-58), IL. After moving to Security, CO in 1959, he started and pastored a mission congregation there (Security Bible Church, 1959-86) while supporting himself and his family through various jobs including school teaching in the Fountain-Fort Carson School District #8 (1961-74). He retired from teaching in 1974, but remained active in providing worship services in local area nursing homes and churches with his wife, Edna. He moved to Cheyenne Mtn. Care and Rehabilitation Center in 2010 where he remained until his death.

Harold enjoyed visiting his beloved Colorado mountains with his wife, family, and friends, especially in summer with the wildflowers, mushrooms, and beautiful golden aspen foliage in fall. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife to see their children and grandchildren at various locations around the U.S. And he enjoyed fishing for trout in the streams and lakes west of Colo. Springs. His life provides a great testimony to God’s grace for those with whom he had ministered and worked over the years. He had many friends and family and will be greatly missed although his death was a long-awaited homegoing to join his wife and other loved ones God called home before him.

A celebration of his life was held Sunday, August 7th, 2011 at the Evergreen Funeral Home, 1830 E. Fountain Blvd., Colorado Springs, CO.
