Obituary

Rusty was a long time resident of Colorado Springs. He was the oldest of 4, born to Paul and Norma Jean O’Day in Mattoon, Illinois on June 22, 1947.

He graduated from Mattoon High School, Class of 1965. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy from June 1965 – June 1969 on the USS Saratoga.
He drove for Ross Trucking for many years, before buying his own dump truck and proudly starting O’Day Trucking. He later went on to be a manager for Ward Transportation, before he retired so he could take care of his wife Linda.

Rusty loved to race and was a member of the Colorado Hill Climb Association, also serving as president of the club in 1999. He raced in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb from 1997-1999. Throughout the years he raced, he made many wonderful friends who became like family.
He liked to travel and take road trips, sometimes with no destination in mind and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years Linda O’Day; father Paul O’Day; mother Norma Jean O’Day and his brother Keith O’Day.

He is survived by his two daughters Jenny Ford and Kelly Newton; son-in-laws, Jim Ford and Doug Newton; grandchildren, Jimmy Ford; Stephany Ford; Sarah Ford; Jennifer Newton; Jacob Newton and Joshua Newton; sisters, Paula Kroencke and Connie McCraw; brother-in-laws, Allen Kroencke and John McCraw; sister-in-law, Shari Collins, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He passed away peacefully on October 8, 2019. Rusty will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 21 at 11:30 am at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church 3010 W. Bijou Colorado Springs, Colorado, 80904.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of Rusty O’Day, online at alz.org or by mail Alzheimer’s Association of Colorado, 455 Sherman Street, Suite 500, Denver, Colorado, 80203.
