Obituary for Joan Wehling

Joan passed away unexpectedly on July 11, 2019 of natural causes. She was born in Pratt, KS on January 23, 1943 to Frederick and Elma Helmke.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Clifford, her first husband Daniel Wehling, and her second husband William Anderson.

She is survived by her brother and his wife, Lawrence and Paula Helmke, her niece Elisha Cannatella, her daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Jeff Leasure, and two grandchildren Joshua and Rachel.

Joan graduated from Pratt High School and married Daniel. She worked for the Kansas power company and a County Judge. She moved to Alliance, NE with Daniel and their daughter Paula in 1977, where they lived for seven years. There she managed a clothing store and also worked for the County Extension office. Joan then moved to Houston, TX where she worked in the oil valve industry and met her husband William. She lived in Houston until coming to Colorado Springs in 2014. Joan missed the warm weather but loved being close to family and making new friends. This is where she met a bear up close and personal on the patio and lived to laugh and tell others about it. She was a big part of her grandchildren’s lives and often attended choir concerts, musicals, soccer games, tennis matches, and graduations. Joan was a loving mother, grandmother, wife, sister and friend. She had a huge heart to help everyone she knew and shared her love by bringing meals, sending encouraging cards or making her unique and personalized Christmas stockings for family and friends. Joan loved to laugh and had a sweet, calm demeanor that will be missed very much by all whose lives she touched.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 26th at 10:30 a.m. at Fount of Life Lutheran Church, 6650 Omaha Blvd., Colorado Springs, 80915
