Obituary for Gregory Alexandre
Gregory Alexandre, 53 years young, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away in his home on Sunday, March 24, 2019 from pancreatic cancer.
Greg was born to Pasqual Alexandre and Yolanda Rodriguez on February 27, 1966 in Los Angeles, California. He was one of eight children.
Greg or ‘Alex’ as many knew him, joined the Army in 1983 and was stationed in Giessen, Germany where he married the mother of his children, Manuela, in 1986. Greg and Ela have three children and two grandchildren together.
During his time in the military, Greg served in Operation Desert Storm and was stationed in Korea. Greg and his family traveled to many places over the years, until settling in Colorado in 1994. After discharging from the Army in 1996, Greg worked in construction and took on odd jobs. He struggled with alcoholism for many years, but celebrated 12 years of sobriety in July 2018. Greg spent the last years of his life serving his community, supporting his children, and spending time with his granddaughters.
Greg was a loving father, grandfather, friend, and brother; his family was very important to him. He would drop everything to help family, friends, and even strangers. Whether playing with his granddaughters, picking up trash at his apartment complex, or pulling weeds for his church, he showed his love for others through service. He volunteered his time and donated his money to his community and his faith. Greg had a passion for environmental sustainability, he sought out items that could be reused, recycled, or donated to those in need. He also enjoyed researching the law and studying history, excitedly sharing the information he learned with friends and family. Greg was a good, loving person, and it showed through his actions every day.
He is survived by his children Melanie, Christopher, and Natascha, son-in-law Shay, granddaughters Natalie and Kaydence, siblings Paula, Dorothy, Andy, Bernie, Adrienne, and Stephanie. He was preceded in death by his parents and eldest sister Berta.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, April 20, 2019 at 11 a.m. The service will be held at Southside Bible Chapel at 1725 S. Wahsatch Ave. in Colorado Springs, CO with a reception to follow directly after.
