Obituary for Eugene Jackson "Gene" JONES Jr.

Eugene Jackson Jones, Jr. was born on March 8, 1944 in Cleveland, Tennessee. He was the youngest son of Eugene and Tressie Jones. The family raised him in the Methodist faith, and he was baptized at a young age. Growing up, Gene was involved in boxing and swimming.

Gene enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1974 at the age of 30. After completing Basic Training, Gene was assigned to Camp Carroll in South Korea as a Communication Specialist. While stationed there in 1975, he met and married Chong Son, who was his wife for 43 years. They were reassigned to Fort Carson in October, 1976. After suffering a heart attack, he was medically retired from his military service in July, 1977. In August of that same year, he joined the U.S. Air Force Academy as a Vehicle Specialist, and served in the field of Transportation for 24 years, until his retirement in 2002.

After retirement, Gene and Chong enjoyed traveling throughout the United States in their RV and with their motorcycle.

Gene was a family man with an outgoing and friendly personality. He was kind and generous, and always willing to help others in any way he could. He was a true and faithful friend to many, and was loved and respected by those who knew him.

He was an active member of the Free Masons, Fountain Valley Lodge #191 since 1988, and was a Master in 1993.

Gene passed away peacefully at his home in Colorado Springs on Christmas Day, December 25, 2018, with his beloved wife and friends at his side.

He is survived by his wife, Chong; his older brother, Jesse Jones; his only daughter, Eugenia Beavers of Chatsworth, Georgia, along with two grandchildren, April and Wesley and two great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 4, 2019 at Evergreen Funeral Home from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 880 E. Wolfensberger Road, Castle Rock, Colorado 80109.
