Melvin Getter Jr., age 72, a resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado,
passed away on April 5, 2011 in Colorado Springs. Melvin was born on
May 10, 1938 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Melvin and
Mattie Mae Jones Getter. Melvin attended the Pittsburgh Public
Schools. He graduated from the Washington Trade School. He was awarded
a certificate as an electrician.
He was married to Bessie Crout. Melvin is survived by 7 children,
Kathie Washington of Colorado Springs, Jeanine Purnell, Paulette
Getter, Curtis Getter, Shawn Getter, Jason Jeter all of Grand Rapids,
Michigan, Vincent Chapman of Painesville, Ohio, 3 sisters, Dolly
Getter, Pearl Getter and Debbie Getter all of Pittsburgh, 7
grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 5 aunts, 4 uncles, many cousins
and a host of other relatives and friends. He was also preceded in
death by a sister, Orphra. He will be sadly missed, but not forgotten.
Visitation was fro 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at
Evergreen Funeral Home 1830 E. Fountain Blvd. Colorado Springs,
Colorado 80910. Funeral services were at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 8,
2011 at Evergreen Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at Evergreen
Cemetery in Fountain, Colorado.
